Jeuveau, BOTOX, Dysport, & Xeomin Injections

Injections of neurotoxins, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Jeuveau™ are the most commonly performed non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedures in the nation. All of these are FDA approved, safe and effective treatments for facial wrinkling.

About Jeuveau, BOTOX, Dysport, & Xeomin

Jeuveau®, BOTOX®, Dysport®, and Xeomin® are all injectable neurotoxin drugs made with purified botulinum toxin type A, but in different formulations (think Pepsi and Coke). When injected, they act by temporarily blocking nerve pulses in facial muscles, allowing them to relax.

These injectables tend to be most commonly used in muscles related to expression lines around the eyes and forehead. More recently, they have been used to soften vertical wrinkle lines in the lips, elevate the corners of the mouth, improve “cobblestoning” of the chin and soften vertical muscle bands in the neck.

While all three products work similarly, the newer Dysport® and Xeomin® may have some advantages over BOTOX®. Dysport® and Xeomin® are less expensive than BOTOX®, seem to work more quickly and, according to many of our patients, last longer as well. The newest option Jeauveau™ also gets favorable results for many patients.

The number and location of injections during treatment, as well as which is the best product to fit your needs, will be determined during a thorough face and skin evaluation. Your injections will be performed by our Nurse Injector, Angela Parisi, RN.

Neurotoxin injections take 5-10 minutes to perform and become effective within several days. When the treated muscles relax, the overlying wrinkles soften or completely go away. You can return to your regular activities shortly after injection. The results usually last 3-6 months, sometimes longer in patients who continue to receive these injections on a continual basis.

Dynamic horizontal wrinkles of the forehead, deep squint lines between the eyebrows (called the glabella) and crow’s feet around the eyes are the areas most commonly treated with BOTOX®, Dysport®, or Xeomin®.

Recent Advancements in BOTOX & other neurotoxin treatments

In recent years, BOTOX®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Jeaueau™ treatments have evolved from just “wrinkle treatment” into a method of facial reshaping by elevating soft tissues. For example, a precise injection of one of these injectables into the muscles beneath the outer aspect of a drooping eyebrow will relax these muscles. This results in “lifting” the outer aspect of the eyebrow and is sometimes referred to as a “chemical brow lift.”

BOTOX®, Dysport®, and Xeomin® can be used alone or in conjunction with fillers. This combination of injectables has come to be referred to as a “liquid facelift.” For example, neurotoxin injectables can be used along with fillers to treat static and dynamic deep vertical lines between the eyebrows.

BOTOX and Your Safety

BOTOX® was approved by the FDA in 2002, Dysport® in 2009, Xeomin® in 2010, and Jeuveau™ in 2019 as cosmetic treatments to correct visible signs of stress and aging. Millions of patients undergo these treatments every year. Very few of our patients have had side effects from any of these treatments. Occasionally, patients will report a headache after treatment or slight, temporary bruising that goes away in a few days. More rarely, there can be a slight drooping of an eyelid or asymmetry.
