Are you frustrated with excess body fat despite your healthy lifestyle and dedicated workout schedule? Liposuction can help you reduce targeted areas of fat in order to contour the body. Dr. Parker commonly uses liposuction to help male patients from Hackensack, Ridgewood, Mahwah, and Somerset, NJ, reduce fat pockets from the neck, chest, abdomen, and flanks, and attain the leaner physique they work hard to achieve.
Liposuction is not a method of weight control or a treatment for obesity. It is a complement to diet and exercise, not a substitute for them.

How Does Liposuction Work?
Liposuction works wonders for many patients. The reason it works is that it actually removes unwanted fat cells—something no amount of diet and exercise can do.
We are all born with a certain number of fat cells, which form our subcutaneous tissue layer located between our skin and underlying muscles. Genetics, hormones, and weight changes cause localized areas of fat deposits to develop; in men, they are most common in the neck, breasts, abdomen, and flanks. When you gain or lose weight, your fat cells increase and decrease in size, but the absolute number of those cells remains constant. With liposuction, surgeons like Dr. Parker sculpt away a certain number of fat cells from specific areas to improve body shape and contour.
If you gain weight after liposuction, the fat will be deposited more evenly throughout the body; it does not selectively relocate to the areas that underwent liposuction. For this reason, you can think of liposuction as a “body re-proportioning procedure.”
What Are the Benefits of Liposuction for Men?*

Liposuction can change your life in many ways. Our male patients tell us after surgery that they feel more athletic and younger. In addition, they observe the following changes, telling us they:
- Look and feel better physically
- Are motivated to lead healthier lives
- Feel more self-confident with improved self-esteem
- Think they are more successful at work
- Say women find them more attractive
- Find their interpersonal relationships and sex lives are strikingly enhanced

Who Is a Good Candidate for Male Liposuction?
The best candidates for liposuction are men who are close to their realistic or ideal body weight with localized fat deposits and good skin tone. Liposuction should not be confused with bariatric surgery or a weight-loss method; instead, it is effective for improving body contours. Liposuction can provide an incentive for weight loss if you’re slightly or moderately overweight.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Parker will examine your areas of concern, evaluate your skin tone, and discuss treatment options with you.

Does Liposuction Tighten Loose Skin?
If your skin has become loose due to significant weight changes or the natural aging process, removal of excess skin with or without liposuction is likely more appropriate than liposuction alone. BodyTite is a nonsurgical skin tightening treatment that Dr. Parker uses in combination with liposuction when skin laxity is a concern. BodyTite can be used on its own for skin tightening and modest fat reduction.
Before & After Neck Liposuction

For example, men with good skin tone can see impressive results from neck liposuction, while men with poor skin tone of the neck will get a better result with a surgical neck lift or possibly the FaceTite procedure.

What’s Better: Liposuction or a Tummy Tuck?
Men with good skin elasticity whose main concern is excess fat in the abdominal area can often get the results they desire with liposuction alone. Those with excess fat, loose abdominal skin, and stretch marks would get a better result with abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). Patients with mild to moderate skin laxity and fat may be candidates for a combination of liposuction and BodyTite instead of a tummy tuck.

What Should I Expect at My Liposuction Consultation?
During your initial consultation, Dr. Parker will discuss treatment options with you. In addition, you will be shown many before-and-after pictures of liposuction patients and undergo computer imaging to see what you could look like following liposuction. Our surgical results after liposuction have a very high correlation with what you are shown in your computer imaging session.

How Is Liposuction Surgery Done?
Male liposuction surgery is performed in our on-site, fully certified ambulatory surgical facility, Surgiplex, LLC. Patients are made comfortable with monitored intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. Liposuction lasts from 45 minutes to several hours, depending on the number of areas undergoing treatment. Patients are discharged within 1 to 2 hours after surgery. If a significant amount of fat is removed, we will discuss post-op monitoring overnight in our aftercare facility or in the home by a private duty nurse.
Dr. Parker’s super-wet liposuction technique includes a local anesthetic solution injected into the targeted tissues to minimize bruising and swelling. Two or more tiny access incisions are used to insert the liposuction cannulae for each area being treated. This technique, called “crosshatching” (like mowing a lawn in two directions), promotes a smooth, natural-appearing contour.
The tiny access incisions are closed with dissolvable sutures. The resulting scars are virtually unnoticeable. Patients are fitted with a snug-fitting garment that provides support, promotes skin contraction, and optimizes the final contour.
Can Men Get 360 Liposuction?
While the specifics vary, men are excellent candidates for 360 liposuction, also called lipo 360 and circumferential liposuction. Dr. Parker uses this liposuction technique to remove fat all the way around the torso (360 degrees) instead of just the belly and back. He removes fat from the abdomen, flanks (love handles), sides (up to the chest), and back to help patients look fit and natural. Dr. Parker can even include liposuction of the chest if desired.
Dr. Parker can combine lipo 360 with his signature Parker Tummy Tuck for lipo abdominoplasty 360, which removes fat all the way around the torso, tightens sagging skin, and repairs the abdominal muscles if necessary.
What Are SAFELipo® and VASER Lipo®?
Dr. Parker will most often use the advanced SAFELipo technique to reduce fat with smooth, natural-looking results and optimal skin retraction. He prefers SAFELipo over VASER ultrasonic liposuction. Both techniques use specialized cannulae to break up and remove unwanted fat, allowing Dr. Parker to sculpt the desired contour.
More important than these particular methods is Dr. Parker’s extensive training, experience, and eye for detail, which allow him to achieve youthful, natural-looking contours.
Which Is Better for Men: Liposuction or CoolSculpting®?
You now have a nonsurgical option to reduce unwanted fat deposits with CoolSculpting. One of the most appealing aspects of CoolSculpting for men is that treatment is quick and convenient, and there is no downtime required. However, CoolSculpting is best for patients with more modest amounts of fat to reduce on the abdomen or love handles and who don’t require the more precise reshaping possible with liposuction.
Liposuction vs. CoolSculpting
Treatment Attribute | Liposuction | CoolSculpting® |
Best for | Significant fat reduction, precise reshaping, extensive contouring | Modest fat reduction |
Treatment areas | Face, double chin, neck, chest, back, abdomen, love handles | Double chin, back, abdomen, love handles |
Recovery | Back to work in a few days Exercise in 1 to 2 weeks Small scars | No downtime required |
See Results | Immediate (improve as swelling subsides) | Gradual over 8 to 12 weeks |
In short, both are great options, but for different patients. Dr. Parker will help you decide the best option at your consultation.

About Your Procedure
Our cosmetic consultations include plenty of time with Dr. Parker, our patient care coordinator, and our imaging specialist. Once your procedure is booked, our nurse educator will meet with you for a special 1-hour pre-op education session.
Request a Consultation Your Education SessionHow Painful Is Liposuction Recovery?
There is more soreness than pain after liposuction. Patients usually describe it as similar to “overdoing it at the gym.”
How Long Is Lipo Recovery?
Most of our male patients lead active lives and are eager to return to their regular activities as soon as possible after surgery. With that in mind, we have tailored our surgical procedures, anesthesia, and medications, and developed our Rapid Recovery peri-operative program to accelerate patients’ recuperation after surgery. While everyone heals differently, most men are ready to return to work within several days of surgery and resume exercise in 1 to 2 weeks.
The compression garment can be removed the day following surgery to shower. These garments are typically worn for several weeks. During both your consultation with Dr. Parker and in your pre-op education visit with our Nurse Educator, your anticipated recovery will be discussed in detail.
