Is It Safe To Combine Other Procedures With a Facelift?

It’s important to consider the big picture when it comes to facial plastic surgery. Signs of aging often occur across many areas of the face, such as the eyes, cheeks, jawline, and more. If you want to enhance multiple areas at once, you may want to combine other facial plastic surgery procedures with a facelift. But our Paramus patients ask a common question: Is combining procedures actually safe?

When Should Facial Procedures Be Combined?

The right treatment plan for your cosmetic goals depends on several considerations. At the start of your consultation, I will analyze your face and see which areas need improvement. If most of your concerns are in the lower half of your face, I may only suggest a facelift. But if you have other issues—your neck skin is sagging, your eyes appear smaller—you may benefit from an added neck lift or eyelid surgery.

How Can I Ensure a Safe Surgery Experience?

Safety is always a top priority at our practice, and we want our patients to feel as comfortable as possible. I usually only combine two or three procedures at once to reduce the risk of complications. I observe strict upper time limits for operations, and when I combine procedures, the total surgical time must remain within those. If you are considering having multiple surgeries at the same time, be sure to find a board-certified plastic surgeon to perform your operation. This is an easy way to verify that your doctor is experienced and knows how to perform more complicated procedures.

Benefits of Combining Procedures

If you’re interested in undergoing more than one cosmetic treatment, there are many reasons to have them together. A few perks of combining surgeries include:

  • Saving money: Some fees are charged on a per-surgery basis, such as anesthesia and operating room costs. When you bundle procedures together, you only pay for these fees one time and can save money in the process.
  • A single recovery period: Healing from surgery is a slow process that requires patience and dedication. A single recovery period can help you save time and PTO and allow you to see results more quickly.
  • Fewer appointments: Because there is only a single operation, the number of pre-op and post-op doctor visits is much fewer.
  • More extensive results: A single procedure can address one part of your face, but you may still be bothered by other problem areas. Combining procedures creates more comprehensive results and helps you look more youthful overall.

In the end, your plastic surgeon knows best when it comes to creating a treatment plan for your needs. Ask your doctor if combining facial procedures will help you achieve your beauty goals.
