Like many patients who visit Parker Center for Plastic Surgery, this 18-year-old male was unhappy and self-conscious about the size of his nose. Following a referral from a former patient, this young man and I discussed how rhinoplasty could enhance his appearance.
The Procedure
During the patient’s consultation, I explained how we would make the nose smaller and more proportional to his face while taking care not to feminize his features. To demonstrate the impact that a rhinoplasty could have, I used our advanced imaging technology to help him visualize the potential results of his nose job and make sure he was satisfied to move forward with the surgery.
When it was time for his surgery, I performed an open rhinoplasty to reshape the nose while the patient was under general anesthesia. I reduced the bone and cartilage on the nasal dorsum and then performed osteotomies to close the open roof. Osteotomy nose jobs entail a high level of precision and must be performed by a skilled and experienced plastic surgeon. Finally, I carefully lifted, reshaped, and supported the nasal tip using septal cartilage grafts.
Rhinoplasty Recovery and Results
The patient recovered very quickly following his procedure. Typically, a rhinoplasty recovery takes 2 to 3 weeks, with up to a year of additional “settling” before the swelling fully subsides and the final results are achieved. As his before and after photos clearly suggest, the patient and his family are delighted with the markedly improved, yet natural, appearance of his reshaped nose.
