Dr. Paul M. Parker Comments on Study That Shows Combo Surgery of Nose and Chin Can Provide Best Results

Italian researchers recently released results showing that the simultaneous combination of rhinoplasty and chin augmentation surgery can provide the most satisfying, stable results for patients.

(PRWEB) June 25, 2013 – JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery recently published a study of 90 patients who had rhinoplasty combined with a chin implant between 2002 and 2004. The patients were followed for a three year period and the majority showed less than a millimeter’s change in their profile.

According to Dr. Dario Bertossi, lead researcher of the Italian study, “While rhinoplasty alone can improve facial profile with stable results, the association of genioplasty (chin implant) is fundamental and necessary to achieve the best esthetic results.”

The Italian study confirms what many plastic surgeons have long noticed in their practice, that creating better facial proportions with both nose and chin features gives patients the most aesthetically pleasing results.

“For many patients seeking rhinoplasty to improve their appearance, the addition of a chin implant can give the most aesthetically pleasing result by balancing the overall proportions of the face. In other words, I can give a patient a more natural result by doing both procedures simultaneously,” explained Dr. Parker.

Because the nose is the most prominent feature on the face, patients who are unhappy with the appearance of their nose may not realize that their chin may also be a part of their dissatisfaction. The addition of a chin implant can reduce the amount of work done to the nose to bring the face into balance. Computer imaging along with the plastic surgeon’s aesthetic sense and experience combine to show patients their ideal result.

Computer imaging is the most effective way for patients to preview the anticipated results of their surgery with both procedures. This valuable tool provides patients with a realistic image of what they should expect after their surgery. Dr. Parker’s professional computer imager, Liz, will show their patients their new nose and demonstrate how the addition of a chin implant can improve their results before going into surgery.

Computer imaging by an experienced digital imaging consultant allows patients to clearly understand what the final results of a surgeon’s treatment plan should be. Liz has worked at the Parker Center for over 8 years and has 20 years’ experience performing and teaching computer imaging to plastic surgeons’ offices.

A chin implant is a brief procedure that can give tremendous results to rhinoplasty patients. A chin implant alone takes 20-30 minutes to perform.

“Chin augmentation has become simpler and more predictable in recent years. The current implants are made of solid silicone and have a natural looking anatomic shape to them. During the healing process, they quickly adhere to the jawbone to add projection and balance to a “weak chin,” said Dr. Parker.

A rhinoplasty procedure usually gives patients a tremendous sense of self-confidence about their appearance. Patients at the Parker Center for Plastic Surgery frequently remark afterwards that they can’t believe that they waited so long to have the surgery. The most frequent comment patients make is that when they look in the mirror they no longer just see their nose; they see their entire face the way it always should have been.

Patient safety is key element of Dr. Parker’s philosophy. All surgery at the Parker Center is performed in the on-site, fully certified, state of the art surgical center, Surgiplex, LLC. The 2,300 sq. ft. surgical suite was designed with patient safety in mind.
