Tummy Tuck Techniques

If you’re researching the different tummy tuck techniques available, you’re likely already aware that not all tummy tucks are created equal. More than just a question of incision length, it’s also a matter of expertise.
At Parker Center for Plastic Surgery in Paramus, New Jersey, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Paul M. Parker has refined a signature approach that uses liposculpture and other advanced techniques for superior results and a more comfortable recovery. Learn more about what sets Dr. Parker’s tummy tuck skills apart below.
Get To Know the Parker Tummy Tuck
Our Parker Tummy Tuck is not just a traditional abdominoplasty—it’s a modern, customized, and drain-free lipoabdominoplasty that delivers flatter, more sculpted midsections with natural-looking bellybuttons and low, often inconspicuous, well-concealed scars.
Differentiator #1: Elevated Body Contouring
Dr. Parker’s signature tummy tuck technique includes comprehensive liposuction, not just of the abdomen but often of the hips, waist, and lower back (an approach commonly referred to as Lipo 360). This step removes stubborn fat deposits and creates smoother contours from all angles.
Many plastic surgeons forego liposuction or treat it as an afterthought. At Parker Center, it is an essential part of your treatment plan and plays a key role in delivering balanced, attractive results. Female patients can achieve that coveted hourglass shape, while male patients can enjoy a sculpted physique with more muscle definition.
Depending on your anatomy and needs, Dr. Parker will almost always incorporate procedures like a monsplasty to thin and lift the mons pubis area, a body lift, or other complementary procedures to enhance your results.
Differentiator #2: Meticulous Bellybutton Design
Patients worried about how a tummy tuck may change their bellybutton can breathe easy when they see the caliber of Dr. Parker’s results. A well-crafted “innie” bellybutton makes all the difference between a good tummy tuck and an exceptional one, and Dr. Parker devotes ample time to refining your navel’s appearance.
During surgery, he carefully sculpts and secures the bellybutton using internal sutures to create a small, vertically oriented shape with subtle upper hooding. His techniques minimize scarring and avoid the telltale signs of surgery, typically leaving your bellybutton looking like it was when you were younger.
Differentiator #3: Low, Concealable Scars
To ensure patients can confidently wear swimsuits or revealing clothing after surgery, Dr. Parker carefully maps out the incision placement with each patient before surgery. Patients bring in revealing clothing, such as skimpy undergarments or swimwear, Dr. Parker draws the outline of these garments on the patient, and then marks the low-lying location where the incision will be placed so it stays hidden. If a patient has an existing c-section scar, the abdominoplasty incision is marked below it so that the c-section scar is removed during surgery.
The incision is carefully closed with multiple layers of dissolvable sutures to minimize tension and optimize the healing of that scar. Beginning 3 weeks after surgery, Dr. Parker has his patients begin applying silicone scar cream or scar tape to assist the scar maturation process.
Differentiator #4: Drain-Free Technique
Speaking of these sutures, Dr. Parker’s advanced technique eliminates the need for postoperative drains in many cases. This approach offers patients a significantly more comfortable recovery while improving functional and aesthetic outcomes. Despite these remarkable benefits, only a select few plastic surgeons have the training and expertise to offer the drainless tummy tuck.
Differentiator #5: Unparalleled Patient Care
From digital imaging and robust preoperative education to local anesthetic injections and our Rapid Recovery Program, Parker Center for Plastic Surgery thoughtfully anticipates and addresses each step of your patient journey.
Exploring Your Body Contouring Options
During your personal consultation, we will help you explore your treatment options in an unhurried, educational, low-pressure, and supportive environment, whether you are just starting to gather information or are ready to book your procedure right away.
If you’re unsure whether you need a tummy tuck, liposuction, or both, for example, the answer often will depend on your skin elasticity and muscle tone. Similarly, the choice between a mini tummy tuck versus a full tummy tuck comes down to your desired level of rejuvenation and whether you want to address any functional concerns, such as abdominal muscle separation or a hernia. We’ll discuss all your needs and goals during your consultation so Dr. Parker can develop a customized treatment plan for you.
