Otoplasty Before & After Case 1561

This 51 year old requested improvement in his prominent right ear present since birth. He would like the right ear to match the left more closely. The patient said this has bothered him a great deal and he finally has the resources to address it. At the patient’s initial consultation, Dr. Parker explained to the patient and his wife the anatomic reasons for his right ear looked the way it did and how it could be corrected surgically. At surgery, which was performed under local anesthesia, Dr. Parker made an inconspicuous incision in the crease behind the patient’s right ear. Through this incision, he sculptured the ear cartilage into the desired shape using carefully placed sutures. He then closed the incision behind the ear carefully with several layers of absorbable stitches to make the resultant scar inconspicuous. The patient was pleased with the ease of his recovery. He is very happy with the markedly improved appearance of his right ear and excellent symmetry with his left. He also loves the fact that the incision is hidden in the crease behind his ear so nobody knows he had anything done.
