This 28 year old met with Dr. Parker in consultation, requesting improvement in the fullness of her neck as well as more definition in her jawline. She said her mother has the same problems. The patient said her weight has always been stable. Dr. Parker explained that the fullness of her neck is caused by a significant amount of fat located beneath the paired plastysma muscles; this fat cannot be safely removed with liposuction. Dr. Parker explained that he would use a short, incision hidden in the natural chin crease to remove this excess fat from beneath the platysma muscles. He would then suture these muscles back together, called a "medial platysmaplasty. He calls this procedure Minimal-Incision Neck Contouring and most commonly performs it under local anesthesia. At the same time, he would perform some additional liposuction through a tiny access incision behind each ear to help contour the jawline and lateral neck. The patient liked the plan and Dr. Parker performed this procedure several weeks later under local anesthesia. The patient felt perfectly comfortable throughout the procedure. She was very pleased with the quick recovery and is very happy with the markedly improved contour of her neck without any visible scar.
