Rhinoplasty New Jersey - Nose Job Procedure and Recovery

Parker Center in Paramus, New Jersey

A nose out of harmony with the rest of the face can be significant to a patient and alter their self image. The goal of nasal surgery is to achieve an improved but natural contour while correcting any internal deformities that may be causing breathing difficulties.

"At the age of 36, I was diagnosed with a basal cell on the side of my nose and was told that I would need Moh's surgery followed by reconstruction. I was absolutely terrified that after the procedure, my nose would be crooked and/or deformed. Six months after the procedure, I am left with nothing more than a light scar that is easily covered with makeup. I am so appreciative of the excellent job Dr. Parker did." —Rhinoplasty Patient

A "closed" rhinoplasty using incisions hidden inside the nostrils is indicated for relatively minor internal changes. An "open" rhinoplasty uses a small and inconspicuous incision under the nose between the nostrils. This allows the surgeon to "open" the nose to correct the underlying structures under direct vision very precisely. Patients who have had previous nasal surgery with a poor result will usually benefit from an open rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty Surgery and Recovery

Rhinoplasty is most safely performed with general anesthesia. Surgical time varies from 30 minutes to 2½ hours depending on the degree of complexity. Patients are discharged about an hour after surgery. There is usually little pain. Sutures and a light plastic splint to protect the nose are removed within a week. Swelling and discoloration subside within ten days. Camouflage make-up can be applied after seven days. Patients may return to normal activities at seven to ten days and resume exercise at two weeks. Together, the nose and chin determine your profile. Chin augmentation is sometimes suggested at the time of rhinoplasty to achieve better facial balance. See chin augmentation for more details.
