Rhinoplasty New Jersey - Procedures and Recovery for Men

Rhinoplasty
A nose that is out of harmony with the rest of the face can be a significant factor in a person's self image. If the nose is too small or too large, misshapen or malformed, it can make other facial features seem out of proportion and alter the symmetry and balance of your overall appearance. The good news is that rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, is a very viable and safe option to create the look you desire.

The goal of nasal surgery at the Parker Center is to achieve an improved but natural contour of the nose while correcting any internal or external deformities that can cause breathing difficulties or an appearance you do not like. This can be done in one of two ways: with a closed rhinoplasty or an open rhinoplasty.

The Procedure

A closed rhinoplasty uses incisions hidden inside the nostrils and is performed for relatively minor internal changes. An open rhinoplasty uses a small and inconspicuous incision under the nose between the nostrils. This allows Dr. Parker to "open" the nose and correct the underlying structures very precisely with direct access and vision. Patients who have had previous nasal surgery with a poor result will usually benefit from an open rhinoplasty.

  • Rhinoplasty is most safely performed with general anesthesia
  • Surgical time varies from 30 minutes to 2½ hours depending on the degree of complexity

Recovery

  • Patients are discharged about an hour after surgery and there is usually little pain
  • Sutures and a light plastic splint to protect the nose are removed within a week
  • Swelling and discoloration usually subside within ten days
  • Camouflage make-up can be applied after seven days
  • You may return to normal activities in seven to ten days and resume exercise at two weeks

Rhinoplasty has become an extremely common cosmetic procedure over the last few years for men and women. From time to time, a chin augmentation is suggested at the time of rhinoplasty. This is because the nose and chin are the facial features that determine your profile. The combined results can be tremendous for your overall facial balance, appearance and self-esteem.
