Upper Arm Rejuvenation
Aging and weight fluctuation can cause excess fat and/or sagging skin to occur in the upper arms. This can make many people self-conscious about wearing summer clothing. And unfortunately, this condition cannot be fully remedied with exercise or diet.
There are two cosmetic procedures that can be used to treat this condition: liposuction and brachioplasty.
Liposuction
Liposuction will help most patients by removing fat and achieving mild skin tightening.
The Procedure
- Liposuction performed as an outpatient procedure
- It uses intravenous sedation and local anesthesia
- A tiny incision is hidden in the armpit area and another by the elbow
- Through these incisions a cannula is inserted to gently break up the fat cells and remove them using suction
Brachioplasty
Patients with severely drooping skin on the upper arms will need to have that skin surgically excised. This procedure is called a brachioplasty.
The Procedure
- Brachioplasty performed as an outpatient procedure
- It uses intravenous sedation and local anesthesia
- The incision runs on the back side of the upper arm from the elbow to the armpit
- The scar will fade by the end of a year and possibly much sooner, as we're all different when it comes to scarring
- Your result will be tighter, smoother arms that look years younger
Recovery from these two procedures
- You can be discharged within one hour and can move about that day
- All sutures dissolve
- The pain should be minimal
- You can return to sedentary work within several days
- Exercise can be resumed in approximately two weeks
Often these procedures can be combined with other procedures of the face and body.
