Northern New Jersey Cosmetic Surgery – Lip Enhancement
Parker Center in Paramus, New Jersey – Overview
We receive requests from patients for fuller, more luscious lips frequently. These patients often have a normal appearance to their lips, but simply desire fuller lips with more definition. Other patients, as part of the aging process, lose lip volume and develop wrinkles in and around their lips. Options for lip enhancement can be Temporary or Permanent.
Temporary
Plastic surgeons can obtain lip enhancement by “plumping” the lips with various “filler substances.” Restylane and Juvederm are two commercially available forms of hyualuronic acid, a natural occurring substance. After topical anesthesia and ice are applied, injection of the filler substance is performed. The procedure takes 10 to 15 minutes to perform. These usually last 3 to 6 months before requiring repeat injection.
Fat injections are another alternative to achieving fuller lips. This requires “harvesting,” or removal of fat from a donor site such as the abdomen, “purification” of the fat and then injection into the lips. This can be performed under local anesthesia and takes ~ 45 minutes to perform. In the lips, 30-50% of the injected fat will often last one year or more, and sometimes it is thought to be permanent.
AlloDerm is a solid, biodegradable implant derived from tissue banked cadaver skin. Under local anesthesia with or without intravenous sedation, AlloDerm is surgically inserted into both upper and lower lips through two tiny incisions at the corner of the mouth. It provides a fuller lip augmentation lasting up to two years in some cases.
Permanent
Perma Facial Implant™ is an FDA approved soft, solid silicone implant contoured implant with a smooth, non-porous surface that cannot rupture or deflate. The implant is available in a variety of sizes for results that range from mild enhancement to restore minor losses of lip volume to more dramatic enhancement for a voluptuous, “sexy” look.
Perma Facial Implant™ implant insertion can be performed under local anesthesia. Two small incisions are made hidden inside the corners of the mouth. The implant is inserted through theses incisions into the upper and lower lips. Absorbable sutures are used to close the incisions. The procedure takes about 20 minutes to perform. Normal activities can be resumed the following day.
