Fat Injections to the Buttocks—Brazilian Butt Lift
Buttock contouring, commonly referred to as the “Brazilian butt lift” is an effective solution for patients who desire fuller, more rounded, and shapely buttocks. It is also known as buttocks augmentation with fat injection, fat transfer, or fat grafting to the buttocks. Dr. Parker performs liposuction of the surrounding hip, lower spine/lumbar region, and outer thighs as appropriate to help “frame the buttocks.” Liposuction of the surrounding areas will help define the curvature and protrusion of the buttocks. The degree of curves and protrusion of the buttocks will vary from patient to patient.
This patient had 500cc of fat removed from each hip through VASER liposuction, with no fat injections. Notice the improvement in the shape of the buttocks, even though nothing was done to the buttocks themselves.

For a more pronounced fullness of the buttocks, Dr. Parker purifies the aspirated fat (the fat removed during liposuction) and re-injects it into the buttocks. The injections are artistically placed within the underlying fatty tissue and muscle fibers. Dr. Parker will usually inject between 300 cc to 600 cc of fat per buttock.
Dr. Parker removed fat from abdomen, hip, and inner and outer thighs using Vaser ultrasonic liposuction and injected 300cc of the purified fat into each buttock, augmenting the shape and contour of the buttock area.

One of the limiting factors in achieving a fuller buttock is the amount of fat that can be aspirated for re-injection. Other areas such as the abdomen can be used as well as the areas surrounding the buttocks. Very thin patients can be more difficult to treat, as they will typically not have much fat to aspirate. In these cases, patients may consider buttock implants.
Dr. Parker is reluctant to utilize buttock implants because of the risks associated with the procedure, including infection, poor positioning of the implants, capsular contraction, and implant extrusion. Instead, the combination of liposuction with fat grafting is a safer technique whereby we consistently achieve excellent aesthetic outcomes resulting in happy patients.
Butt Lift with Fat Injection Procedure
Buttock augmentation surgery with liposuction usually takes 2 to 3 hours, depending on the amount of liposuction performed. The surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure in Surgiplex, our fully certified ambulatory surgical facility, under either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. Patients are usually discharged within 1-2 hours after surgery.

Our Nurse Educator will review all instructions with our patients prior to surgery during their Pre-operative Education visit. Patients are up and around the same day, but cautioned not to sit directly on their buttocks for up to 3 weeks. Patients will wear a compression garment for 2 weeks. Most patients can return to work within 2 weeks. We will instruct you about a progressive return to all activities by 4 weeks after surgery.
Buttock Augmentation with Fat Injection Results
In our experience, the results of fat injection are long-term. Because your own fat is injected and then incorporated into your underlying tissues, the results should last for many years. Depending on the amount of buttock fullness desired by the patient, more than one fat injection session may be necessary.
Dr. Parker performed liposuction on the abdomen, hip, and inner and outer thighs. He then injected 350cc of fat into each buttock. Note the enhanced curvature to the buttocks.
