Eyelid Surgery for Men New Jersey

Your eyes probably receive more attention than any other feature of your face. This is for good reason; strong eye contact is crucial for communicating well in any setting. Eyelid rejuvenation surgery, also called blepharoplasty, can help you restore a more youthful, vibrant appearance, helping to correct a falsely tired, sad or overly concerned appearance.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

When the upper eyelids begin to droop due to aging, many problems can arise. These problems can range from an aesthetically displeasing look to actual obstruction of vision. If droopy eyelids are making you look sad or tired all the time, or hindering your ability to see, it’s time to consider eyelid rejuvenation.

The Procedure

Upper eyelid surgery can be performed using intravenous sedation, is relatively straightforward; typically, it takes about 45 minutes to complete. Dr. Parker will make a small incision in the crease of the eyelid, removing any excess, herniated fat. The sagging skin of your upper eyelid is also removed and the incision is carefully closed.

Because a man’s eyelids are naturally “heavier” than a woman’s, Dr. Parker is careful to retain a naturally masculine appearance to the eyelids, removing only the necessary skin & fat to correct your concerns.

Recovery

There is usually very little postoperative pain after eyelid surgery, and you’ll be discharged within an hour or so of the procedure. The eyes do not need to be bandaged, and sutures are removed within five to six days. Swelling and discoloration typically subside within 10 to 14 days, with most patients returning to normal activities at that time.

The result of an upper eyelid lift is a dramatically fresh appearance to the eyes. Often, patients who have blepharoplasty are surprised by how many compliments they receive about their new looks. Since the surgery leaves virtually no scarring, friends and family will notice the dramatic change, but won’t know why you look so vibrant.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

As we grow older, the lower lids can become puffy and baggy. The skin stretches and starts to hang loosely, and muscles weaken. Fat can herniate and accumulate below the eyelids, resulting an a tired, aged appearance that belies how healthy and energetic we really feel. Lower eyelid rejuvenation can smooth this sagging skin & fat to restore a more vibrant appearance.

The Procedure

Lower eyelid surgery is usually an outpatient procedure done with intravenous sedation to keep you comfortable. Surgery takes about 45 to 90 minutes to perform, depending on the exact surgical technique needed to achieve your desired results. Through tiny incisions made just underneath the eyelashes, Dr. Parker will remove or reposition excess fat and remove excess skin to smooth and firm the skin in the area. The incision is closed with tiny sutures. Dr. Parker will apply ointment to lubricate your eyes and may apply a bandage in certain cases.

Recovery

For a couple of weeks you may have excessive tearing, some blurry vision, and sensitivity to light, and you will want to keep your head elevated for the first few days. There is little postoperative pain, and any discomfort can be controlled by medication or by gently applying ice packs. You can read or watch TV after a few days, and normal activities can be resumed within a week or so. Stitches are removed within the first week after surgery.
