Patients with overly large breasts and sagging breasts commonly complain of self consciousness and difficulty with clothing in addition to being the source of considerable discomfort. This excessive breast weight can cause neck and back pain, shoulder strap grooving, chronic skin irritation under the breast and prevent them from exercising as they would like.
Breast reduction surgery combined with a breast lift provides more appropriately sized and shaped breasts which appear more youthful. These uplifted breasts that are in better proportion to the patient’s body. Almost all patients state their physical discomfort from the heavy and sagging breasts is eliminated. Additionally, they report how much better they look and feel in clothing, the ability to exercise more comfortably, and enhanced self esteem.

Breast Reduction New Jersey Options
There are three methods of performing breast reduction:
Liposuction reduction can be performed to reduce the size of the breast in patients who do not need to have their breast lifted appreciably. New Jersey plastic surgeon, Dr. Parker, performs this procedure infrequently, believing he is able to achieve a better sized and shaped breast with minimal incision procedures.
Women who require a modest reduction and lift are candidates for the Le Jour, “Lollipop” or Vertical breast reduction. This technique employs a limited incision only around the areola and vertically down to the inframammary crease under the breast. There isn’t any incision within the inframammary crease itself. Using this limited incision procedure, Dr. Parker is able to achieve a smaller, better shaped and uplifted breast. This has become his procedure of choice in recent years. The scars typically are virtually un noticeable; patient acceptance and satisfaction has been phenomenal.
The “Traditional”, “Classic”, “Anchor” breast reduction uses an inverted T incision. This includes an incision around the areola, one extending vertically down to the inframammary crease, and an incision within the crease. This method is used for very large breast reductions and for those patients whose breasts sag significantly with nipples pointing downward.

Recovery from Breast Reduction
All incisions are closed with dissolving sutures. Surgery times range from 1½ hours for lipo-reduction to 4½ hours for Vertical or Traditional breast reductions. General anesthesia by Dr. Parker’s team of board-certified anesthesiologists is employed. The patient is usually discharged after one hour of observation. Pain is almost always minimal after this surgery utilizing our Rapid Recovery pain management protocol. Patients can shower the day after surgery and resume most activities of daily living, including the return to work within several days. Aerobic exercise which does not involve the chest can be started 10 days after surgery. All other activities can usually begin 3 weeks after surgery.
