Money is always a factor when purchasing big ticket items, and cosmetic surgery is no exception. Patients need to understand the different between cost and price. If you go with the cheapest price, you could put yourself at risk for higher costs in the long term. Complication rates, longer recovery time, unsatisfactory results are just a few of the things that could cost you down the road. New Jersey Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Paul Parker states, “Choosing a surgeon who offers breast augmentation at a dramatically reduced cost can be a bad decision.”

Breast Augmentation today should be a straightforward procedure with a well educated patient, a well excuted procedure followed by a rapid, paid free recovery and natural appearing, soft breasts.

“The first operation is the patient’s best opportunity to get a great result. It becomes increasingly difficult to achieve this with each successive procedure. This has to do with the surgeon’s ability to correct and control the scar tissue which forms in the “breast pocket” around the breast implant,” says Dr. Parker. He also notes that some revisions are impossible because too much damage has been done.

When a patient searches for a cosmetic surgeon in New Jersey, Dr. Parker urges them to shop around, but not just on cost. “It is important to compare the surgeon’s credentials, experience facilities, and the testimonials from former patients,” he says.

The first qualification for a plastic surgeon is to ensure they are board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Secondly, the surgeon should have extensive breast augmentation experience, and you can typically find this out by requesting to view his before and after photos. Thirdly, you should feel comfortable with the surgeon you choose. All relationships, including the one with your surgeon, should require good communication. Make sure you feel you can express any concerns or ask any questions with the surgeon you choose.

The average cost of a New Jersey breast augmentation can be around $7,370 for both breasts, so when comparison shopping make sure you are comparing apples to apples. You should have a written quote from the surgeon that includes the surgeon’s fee, anesthesia fee, facility fee and the cost of the breast implant.

While a woman’s body is built to bear children, the abdomial area including the rectus abdomius muscles, or “abs”, as they’re frequently called are stretched to extremes. The breasts also grow to prepare for breast-feeding and body holds more fat in order to stay properly fueled. As a result, the 9 month miracle can result in flabby skin, sagging breasts and stubborn fat pockets.

Whether its an older mom who wants to feel more youthful or a young mom who wants to have her body match her age again, a mommy makeover can help them achieve their goals.

Dr. Parker understands that each mom will have different concerns. “Each mommy makeover procedure is relevant to the individual patient’s desires and anatomy,” he says. “Often times, there is one main issue, say sagging breasts, that brings them in. But, during our consultation, I have them show me in a mirror what they don’t like and then we plan together a treatment that they will be happy with.”

For women in New Jersey, lipoabdominoplasty and breast augmentation are the most common procedures in a mommy makeover. However, each process is very different. While one mom may want implants and a lift, another may actually need a reduction and a lift. It isn’t always necessary to perform a full tummy tuck where a mini-lipoabdominoplasty will suffice. Thigh and buttocks lifts are sometimes added whereas liposuction of the area may be all that is necessary.

However, there is one thing that remains constant when a patient comes in for a New Jersey mommy makeover at The Parker Center: patient safety, natural results and a rapid recover from surgery.

“In recent years we’ve been able to combine several procedures into one surgery,” says Dr. Parker. “The reason for this is our commitment to safety and our finely-tuned staff of registered nurses and board certified anesthesiologists.”

For those patients that are leary of the multiple procedures and following pain, Dr. Parker offers his unique rapid recovery program that gets moms back to their normal daily activities within several days. He follows a pre and post-operative program that minimizes the risk of pain and complications. It is the reason New Jersey mommy makeover patients can get a moving the day after surgery.

“For any of our patients who are unsure about the process, we encourage them to talk to others who have been through it,” says Dr. Parker. “In fact, we have many former patients who are gracious enough to share their experiences with anyone who has questions. While we do everything we can to educate and make our patients feel comfortable, sometimes it helps to talk to another mom who has previously walked this same path.”

As a premier New Jersey plastic surgeon, Dr. Parker is dedicated to providing natural results in the safest manner possible. The Parker Center’s on site state-of-the-art Surgiplex ambulatory surgical facility is accredited and certified by Medicare, JCAHO and AAAASF—the highest level of credentialing possible. Their facility is designed for overnight patient stays following lengthy procedures, such as mommy makeover procedures. The Parker Center’s highly trained team of registered nurse provides one to one patient monitoring following these surgeries. Several days following their surgery, patients are scheduled for the first of three Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage treatments in the Parker Center’s onsite medi-spa, known as Beaura Spa. These treatments contribute to the Rapid Recovery program at the Parker Center, which allows patients to comfortably return to the activities of daily living within several days after their procedure.

Breast augmentation is the most popular cosmetic surgical procedure performed each year across the country and by Dr. Parker, as well. Because it is so popular, as a New Jersey plastic surgeon, Dr. Parker thinks it is essential that his patients and others understand what complications can occur. When he realized that a discussion of the possible need for revision after breast augmentation was missing from his Website, he quickly remedied the situation and created pages that comprehensively addressed the various issues.

“We were showing before and after pictures of patients undergoing breast implant revision, but we did not have a page that clearly discussed the various issues and options concerning the surgical procedure of breast implant revision,” he says. “So, I added pages that addressed the problems that might occur after breast augmentation and solutions to them.”

Across the country and in New Jersey, breast implants continue to be very popular. As noted on Dr. Parker’s information page, “over two million women have breast implants.” Because it is so prevalent, it is essential that they be aware of what the potential pitfalls might be and how they can be rectified.

The newly added Web pages describe the causes for breast implant revision and on a positive note, what the benefits are derived from this. Capsular contracture, implant leakage, rippling and displacement are relatively common problems that can be corrected through revision surgery. Replacement is also performed because the implant size is not what the patient had wanted or no longer wants. More recently, Dr. Parker has operated on an increasing number of women who wish to convert their previously inserted saline implants to silicone gel implants, which continue to increase in popularity following their return to the market by the FDA in November, 2006.

While it is less common, implant removal without replacement, or explantation, is also a part of the revision process. “Most women become much attached to their implants, once inserted, says Dr. Parker. From time to time they will ask that they be removed and not replaced for a variety of reasons, though that is not the norm. We feel it’s important that these patients fully educate themselves about the issues regarding implant explantation.”

While he occasionally performs revision surgery on his own breast augmentation patients, the majority of his revision patients come referred to him by other physicians, patient’s family members or friends. Dr. Parker’s extensive training and experience with breast surgery and implants have lead to this referral pattern. Accordingly, he feels a responsibility to fully educate these patients about breast implant revision issues and options.

Dr. Parker explains why for patients in New Jersey, breast implants inserted by him infrequently require revision. “Extensive pre-operative patient education by our staff greatly reduces the number of patients unhappy with their implant size,” he says. “We spend so much time with our patients in choosing the right size that few choose to change their size after surgery. Beyond that, our ability to thoroughly educate our patients seeking New Jersey breast augmentation before surgery, deliver a first class technical result and hold their hands through the recovery process have all contributed to a high level of patient satisfaction.

Recently, he completely revised his pages on breast reduction.

“I initially wrote the breast reduction pages in 2004,” says Dr. Parker. “But, I was primarily using the inverted T technique so my focus was on that. Now however, for the majority of my breast reductions, I use the lollipop incision because it has evolved into a technique that provides phenomenal results. I realized I needed to address this technique in more detail and add more photos to reflect its results.”

The lollipop, or vertical incision, uses fewer incisions and it gives the reduction a lift with more projection which results in a more youthful appearance. For breast reduction, New Jersey patients benefit from these great results when they need a moderate reduction. Dr. Parker still uses the inverted T for those who have extremely large breasts or severe sagging. Liposuction is also an option when the reduction is minimal.

The traditional inverted T breast reduction uses a horizontal incision in the crease and vertical incision up to and around the nipple/ areole complex. The lollipop eliminates the horizontal incision; the powerful vertical incision also lifts the breast higher on the chest wall and creates a more uplifted, better projecting breast. Long term, the inverted T incision can have a tendency to “bottom out” and have the nipple ride up higher on the breast. The lollipop technique changes very little over time and gives good long lasting results.

“As this technique has evolved over the years to a better technique with great results, I use it more often than other methods,” says Dr. Parker.

After examining the patient, I have her stand in front of a mirror” says Dr. Parker. “We will discuss options for improvement back and forth, reviewing pros and cons until together we arrive at a plan for creating smaller, uplifted better shaped breasts.”On the newly revised parkercenter.net pages, Dr. Parker also addresses the physical and psychological impact of extremely large breasts along with the improvements which occur with these procedures. Issues like back and neck pain, headaches and feeling self-conscious are common among large breasted women and these surgeries correct them over 95% of the time.

Women from their teens into their 70’s are referred to and treated by Paramus plastic surgeon, Dr. Paul M. Parker. These referrals are made by the patient’s friends, family and doctors because of Dr. Parker’s reputation. He is known for the thoroughness of his evaluation, communication of the options and operative plan and a meticulous surgeon who is a slave to precision and detail. Dr. Parker will not leave the operating room until he is satisfied that the patient looks as perfect as possible.

Joanne, 58 year old mother of two, decided it was time to get rid of her 36DDs. She researched on the Web and even though The Parker Center was not all that close to her, she decided it was worth the drive for New Jersey plastic surgeon, Dr. Parker to evaluate her situation.

“My breasts have always bothered me. I am very petite so imagine trying to buy clothes with 36DDs,” says Joanne. “I could never wear the tops I wanted to.”

While she was in her consultation, Joanne and Dr. Parker decided she would also benefit from a lipoabdominoplasty with liposuction as well. After two pregnancies, the last one being a C-section, Joanne had sagging skin around the tummy. In April, she had all of her procedures performed at once. In November, she went on a family vacation to Puerto Rico.

“I haven’t worn a bikini since I was 18!”

“Of course, after the procedure, I had to buy new clothes because my breasts were so much smaller and shaplier, but I also had a flatter, contoured tummy,” she says. “So, I added a bikini to my list.”

She was quick to say it wasn’t a skimpy suit, but more of the sporty style. Nonetheless, she never thought she’d don a bikini again. It was almost like a dream- hanging out on the beach, enjoying her family and loving her new body.

After all of the years spent wearing unattractive support bras and being unable to wear form-fitting tops, Joanne can now wear the styles she likes and feel good about herself in them.

For women in New Jersey, breast reduction and lipoabdominoplasty are just two of the cosmetic procedures Dr. Parker performs in his state-of-the-art fully accredited Surgiplex. For more information or to schedule a consultation, visit the Web site at www.parkercenter.net or call (201) 967-1212.

As we age, each part of the body shows it differently. Around the eyes, common aging signs include hooding of the upper eyelid skin, drooping eyebrows and constant scowl lines between the eyes. New Jersey plastic surgeon, Dr. Paul M. Parker, has a relatively simple solution to the problem.

“When I evaluate a patient’s upper eyelids, I look at the position and shape of their eyebrows as well,” says Dr. Parker. “As we age, our skin loses its tone and elasticity causing the skin of the upper eyelids to become lax. As aging progresses, the degree of laxity worsens and the eyebrows themselves descend. The excess upper eyelid skin over the outer aspect of the eye “hoods” over the corner of the eye, like a falling curtain. The overall effect is a tired, aged appearance.”

For patients in New Jersey, upper eyelid surgery and brow surgery is relatively straight forward. Dr. Parker begins each new patient consultation by handing the patient a mirror and asking them to identify their concerns. Patients bothered by their aging eyelids will often point out the “extra skin” which has developed in the upper lids. He will also discuss with them eyebrow position and shape as well as the vertical wrinkle lines in between the eyebrows.

In order to treat the extra upper eyelid skin, Dr. Parker makes a well concealed incision in the crease of the eyelid to remove the excess skin. This procedure is called an upper lid blepharoplasty, or eyelidplasty.

At this time, he can use the same incision to take care of the scowl lines that collect between the brows.

“Between the eyebrows are the paired corrugator muscles. They are responsible for the vertical lines that form and leave a person looking angry all the time,” explains Dr. Parker. “Many people have Botox injected into these muscles to relax them and in doing so soften the scowl lines. The results from Botox will only last for 3- 6 months at a time, however.”

To permanently correct these scowl lines, Dr. Parker carefully removes the corrugator muscles through the upper lid blepharoplasty incision. Whether this is performed at the time of the upper eyelid lift or not is determined during the patient’s consultation. While Botox is the least invasive way to correct this issue, Dr. Parker’s technique is minimally invasive, permanent and less expensive after adding up the cost of Botox two to three times a year.

In addition to treating the corrugators, Dr. Parker can elevate the outer aspect of the eyebrow, also known as the “tail of the brow” with a browpexy during this same procedure. Using the same upper eyelid blepharoplasty incision, he will insert several sutures underneath the eyebrow and elevate it to a more youthful position, improving the shape of the eyebrow. This form of internal brow fixation is indicated in patients with mild laxity of the eyebrow. For more serious sagging, a formal brow lift, which entails incisions in the scalp, may be necessary.

Many of Dr. Parker’s patients seeking New Jersey eyelid surgery will opt for this limited incision procedure which he has called a transpalpebral brow lift and blepharoplasty. Through one incision, they are able to have the redundant skin removed from their upper eyelids, scowl lines between their eyebrows erased and their eyebrows lifted and shaped in a roughly one hour procedure.

Not only is the procedure short but the recovery is rapid accompanied by very little pain. “I recently had a male patient who had an upper lid blepharoplasty, removal of the corrugator muscles and a browpexy- ten days later he was enjoying himself at the US Open Tennis Tournament.”

“I think that’s the advantage of these minimally invasive procedures,” he says. “Because the recovery is so quick and the tell-tale signs are virtually nonexistent, patients are more inclined to have these procedures performed at a younger age.”

Lipoabdominoplasty is a fairly new procedure and New Jersey plastic surgeon, Dr. Paul M. Parker is one of the few surgeons in the region who perform it. It is the innovative approach and quick recovery that makes this procedure so attractive to Dr. Parker’s patients who started out seeking a traditional tummy tuck.

One patient, however, knew exactly what she was looking for when she found Dr. Parker’s Web site. Linda is a soldier in the United States Army, a mom and stationed overseas in Great Britain. When asked in an e-mail interview why she was specifically looking for a surgeon who performed lipoabdominoplasty, she replied, “Looking at other before and after pictures, there seemed to be better results [with this procedure].” The quick recovery was also an important factor in her decision process.

First, Dr. Parker performs liposuction on the entire abdominal area. Then, as he removes excess skin and fatty tissue, he is able to preserve more nerves, blood vessels and lymphatic vessels than in a traditional tummy tuck. Because there is less trauma to the area, swelling, bruising and pain are all reduced and the postoperative recovery is much quicker. With a two-year old and active Army life, this was essential to Linda.

Linda is originally from New Jersey and she wanted to have the procedure while home on Leave. Scheduled to deploy to the Middle East, she knew she had put off the procedure long enough. One concern of hers was the “extreme heat” and the “wearing of all the heavy gear” during the deployment. Just imagine 120 degree temperatures in an Army uniform and having that annoying sagging skin where sweat can collect and irritate the skin.

When asked how she decided on Dr. Parker when she was looking for cosmetic surgeons in New Jersey, she said, “I found Dr. Parker on the Internet. From start to finish, everything about Dr. Parker and his staff was very professional.”

Soldiers, whether female or male, are just like anyone else. Sure, they all wear the same things and their uniforms are not form-fitting. But, when they aren’t at work, they want to dress just like everyone else. Linda has found herself unable to enjoy living abroad in Great Britain because of her self-consciousness about her excess skin and belly fat. She wanted to dress up and enjoy the European night-life, but she just didn’t feel comfortable in her body.

After her procedure, Linda was ready for her new life. “I look and feel great. My results are phenomenal and the recovery was even quicker than I had hoped for. I finally got my self-confidence back….It is great to have the old me back!” This is just the kind of reaction Dr. Parker strives for and dedicates his practice to.

For potential patients thinking about lipoabdominoplasty with Dr. Parker, Linda wrote this, “I wish I would have done it sooner. I know that some people may feel self-conscious about plastic surgery or the price, but it is totally worth it.”

For more information on New Jersey plastic surgeon Dr. Paul M. While many pursue correction of the problem in their teens and early twenties, Dr. Paul M. Parker, Medical Director of the Parker Center for Plastic Surgery has treated men of all ages, including those into their 60’s with gynecomastia.

In the past, gynecomastia was treated by surgical excision of the excess male breast tissue. In recent years, liposuction has become the method of choice for treating gynecomastia. At The Parker Center, Dr. Parker uses the Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance (VASER) system, also known as Liposelection, to treat gynecomastia. At the 2009 annual meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in October, held in Seattle, Washington, results were presented of a multi-center trial comparing the VASER system to traditional liposuction. The study showed 26% of patients had less blood loss and 53% more skin contraction with the VASER system versus traditional liposuction. VASER patients enjoyed a quicker, less painful recovery with diminished bruising and better aesthetic results. These findings in this study confirmed what Dr. Parker has observed in treating his patients with the VASER system, since its approval by the FDA in 2002. In fact, Dr. Parker was one of the first plastic surgeons to incorporate the VASER system into his procedures.

The VASER system works by emitting a 2-3mm orb of ultrasonic energy from the tip of a 3mm wide cannula. This energy emulsifies the surrounding fat and even glandular breast tissue, but does not harm the other important tissues such as nerves, blood vessels and connective tissues. This tissue specificity has lead to the term “Liposelection”. The emulsified tissue is then gently removed with a specially designed evacuation cannula to promote a smooth contour. Two small incisions are all that is used for access in treating gynecomastia. These incisions are closed with dissolvable sutures making this essentially a “scarless procedure”. The skin contraction brought about by the VASER system makes it very unusual to remove excess skin.

The procedure is performed in Surgiplex, Dr. Parker’s fully certified onsite ambulatory surgical facility, often under light intravenous sedation, administered by one of his board certified anesthesiologists. Patients are usually discharged from the facility within one hour of surgery. Initially, after liposuction, New Jersey gynecomastia patients wear a compression vest, which is exchanged for an Under Armour tee shirt 3-4 days later. Patients are up and walking around the day of surgery, shower the following day, return to work within several days and the gym roughly a week after surgery. Patients say they do not experience pain, but instead feel sore as if they have done too many pushups at the gym.

Dr. Parker says the Rapid Recovery Program he employs accounts for the prompt healing after surgery. This program includes his state of the art surgical technique including his use of the VASER system, short acting anesthetic agents which exit the system quickly, use of peri operative medications to reduce swelling, bruising and pain as well as having his patients undergo manual lymphatic drainage massage performed several days after surgery.

Dr. Parker looks forward to seeing his patients return for their first post operative visit several days after surgery. They look good and feel good. They will almost always note a markedly improved appearance of their chest immediately after surgery. Psychologically, having been bothered by their appearance, often for years, they now feel better about what they see in the mirror. As Dr. Parker continues to see his patients for routine follow up visits at increasing time intervals over the next several months, he observes their self confidence rise. They are progressively more comfortable removing their shirts in public and indulging in activities such as going to the beach.

“In inexperienced hands, results can be different,” Dr. Parker warns. “I urge anyone who is considering plastic surgery to carefully select the right surgeon. At the very least, he or she must be board certified in plastic surgery and experienced using the VASER or whatever other type of equipment they feel will give the patient the best results.”

Democratic leaders in the Senate unveiled their proposal for overhauling the health care system, which includes a new 5% tax on elective cosmetic procedures. Senate Democrats argue that the tax, which was a surprise addition to the sweeping 2,074-page bill, will generate $5.8 billion over the next 10 years to be put towards the bill’s estimated $849 billion price tag. However, this tax as discriminatory, arbitrary and ineffective.

Elective surgery taxes discriminate against women, given that 86 percent of cosmetic surgery patients are female, of which 91 percent are between the working ages of 19-64. Moreover, contrary to popular belief, cosmetic surgery is no longer an exclusive luxury afforded by the very wealthy. This tax is effectively a “Soccer Mom” tax that will adversely impact mainstream American wives and mothers, who are the majority of plastic surgery patients. (This law will tax cosmetic dentistry, teeth whitening, Botox, fillers & peels, as well as surgery.) As your doctor, I understand and appreciate the need for health care reform, but taxing physicians and cosmetic surgery procedures (ie, you) to pay for the reform is not realistic or beneficial.

In a 2005 ASPS survey of people planning to have cosmetic surgery within the next two years, 60% of respondents reported an annual household income of $30,000-$90,000 a year. Most importantly, 40% of those reported a household income of only $30,000-$60,000. Only 10% of respondents reported a household income of over $90,000, which clearly refutes the suggestion that elective surgery taxes are “luxury” or “sin” taxes affecting a privileged few.

Such taxes have been proven arbitrary and difficult to administer as evidenced by our experience in New Jersey, the only state to have imposed a cosmetic tax. Since it passed a 6% tax on elective medical procedures in 2004, the NJ Department of Taxation has experienced a 59% shortfall based on projected revenue estimates. Eight other states have considered similar tax legislation- and they all wisely rejected them. In fact, according to Joseph Cryan, the NJ State Democratic Chairman, for every $1.00 collected by the NJ tax, it costs the state $3.39! (Of course, with the new federal tax, we would pay 11% in NJ!)

Finally, though the bill claims that the only procedures that would be taxed are those that are “not necessary to ameliorate a deformity arising from, or directly related to, a congenital abnormality, a personal injury resulting from an accident or trauma, or a disfiguring disease,” such distinctions aren’t always obvious. Because the line between ‘cosmetic’ and ‘reconstructive’ surgery is not always clear, such a tax would leave the determination of medical necessity up to state tax auditors – a completely inappropriate proposition.

The American Society of Plastic Surgery has, and continues to oppose all taxes on physicians, in any and all forms, due to their deleterious effects on health care costs and access to patient care. Medical care should not be used as a tool to fix broken finances.

CALL TODAY

ASPS has developed a dedicated toll-free hotline number for you to share your thoughts with Senators Lautenberg and Menendez. Callers will hear a recorded message explaining the tax, after which they will be matched via zip code prompt with their individual Senators so that they may speak directly with their offices. Please distribute this number as widely as possible.

For at least 9 years, Jonathan hid behind baggy clothes, lockers and any excuse he could come up with the keep his shirt on in front of people. Since the age of 10, he lived with the painful reality that he had a condition called gynecomastia where his breasts were overdeveloping.

“I had no idea how to deal with it.” So, over the years, Jonathan said, “I spent a lot of time thinking of ways to avoid any one finding out that I had this condition.” Imagine being a young boy, growing into a teen-ager and having feminine looking breasts.

Just two months ago, Jonathan took a leap of faith and consulted with New Jersey plastic surgeon about a reduction procedure. When asked how he chose Dr. Parker, Jonathan was quick to say that how he was treated on the phone played a big role in his decision. He was quite sensitive about seeking help for his gynecomastia and, of the different surgeons he interviewed, he felt Dr. Parker understood and related to him the best. “Dr. Parker turned what could have been an embarrassing and scary situation into a very positive one,” says Jonathon. “He talked to me like a real person, found out what my fears were and then explained every detail of the procedure. After the consultation, I had no doubts about my decision and had complete confidence in Dr. Parker.”

The understanding and knowledge of the staff made it all come together for him. Of course, he said the Web site clinched it. “The before and after pictures really drove it home for me,” he said. Simply seeing the transformation was a great testament to Dr. Parker’s abilities.

For male breast reduction, New Jersey residents like Jonathan benefit from Dr. Parker’s use of the VASER ultrasonic assisted liposuction which helps cut down on the trauma to the tissue and skin. A tiny incision can be made because the energy emitted from the cannula melts the fat, making it easier to suction out. Jonathan attests that this technique works because he reported very minimal pain after the procedure.

When asked why he finally decided to pursue surgery, he said, “It’s been so many years, I don’t even know what it’s like to be normal.” Going off to college was a wake-up call for him. Roommates and dormitory living made it difficult, if not impossible, to hide anymore. So, at 19 after his Freshmen year, he gathered the courage to do something about it.

While it will take him some time to reprogram himself after all those years of embarrassment and hiding, Jonathan has been to the beach and the pool. He’s also wearing slim-fitting shirts that he has never been able to wear before. The procedure was 2 months ago so he still has a little bit of swelling, but he already sees a marked difference in his body. Only 2 weeks after, he put on the slim-fitting shirts and felt good about himself.

For male breast reduction New Jersey, Jonathan wants kids like him dealing with this to be proactive about seeking treatment. He tells them, “Talk to your doctor…. Get down to the issue and find out what’s caused the overdevelopment.” Sometimes puberty causes it and it will go away, but sometimes it won’t. Weight gain and genetics are also causes of gynecomastia.

When asked if he would advise others to have the surgery, Jonathan said, “Definitely! I highly recommend doing it. It will definitely make them feel better as though go through their teen years.”

When it comes to Dr. Parker and the Parker Center, Jonathan says, “Everybody there was great! The staff at Dr. Parker’s office was all very helpful, nice and made sure I was comfortable.”

This is a very common problem with young men. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons reports that 14,203 teens 13-19 had reduction surgery in 2008.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, rhinoplasty was the second most popular cosmetic procedure performed in 2008. Popular with both women and men, it also spans every age group. At the Parker Center, New Jersey rhinoplasty patients follow this national trend ranging in age from the teens to late 50s.

Dr. Parker initiates each consultation with New Jersey rhinoplasty patients by asking them to look in the mirror and verbalize what they don’t like about their nose. He will then perform a physical examination of the nose and facial features, making measurements in an effort to optimize facial harmony. Dr. Parker will then explain to the patient what can be done to improve the appearance of the nose and other facial features.

Following Dr. Parker’s explanation of the rhinoplasty procedure and additional procedures, the patient will meet with Liz, the professional photographer at the Parker Center. Liz will show the patients many before and after photos of other rhinoplasty patients on whom Dr. Parker has operated. She will also show patients the New Jersey rhinoplasty computer imaging simulation program on which she will make changes to the patient’s photographs. This will give them an idea of what they will look like after surgery. It will include adjustments to improve the size and shape of the nose in order to achieve better facial balance. If thought necessary by Dr. Parker, Liz will also show changes to other structures, such as building out the chin with a chin implant,

“This process makes sure that we are on the same page. Once the patient and I have agreed upon a look, I study those pictures the night before surgery and take them into the operating room, much like an artist uses sketches when he or she sculptures” says Dr. Parker.

Dr. Parker uses two techniques to correct the shape of the nose- a closed or an open approach. The closed technique involves making incisions on the inside of the nose alone. It is used by Dr. Parker when the patient doesn’t want anything done to the tip of the nose. The open technique uses these same incisions inside the nose as well a small and inconspicuous incision underneath the nose between the nostrils. This is used when Dr. Parker is going to reshape the tip. “Though the incision is made outside, its visibility is minimal and very difficult, if not impossible to see,” reassures Dr. Parker.

The patient’s desires and their anatomy dictate what will be surgically done to the nose. By fixing an unsightly bump, refining an over projecting and/ or broad tip or fixing a crooked nose, New Jersey plastic surgeon, Dr. Parker, brings harmony to the face. When a chin implant is agreed upon, Dr. Parker makes an un noticeable incision just beneath the chin. Through this, he will insert a solid silicone anatomic chin implant which is tapered at the edges. It is placed along the lower border of the jawbone and becomes part of it, so that it looks very natural.

“No two noses are alike, so the process is very customized,” says Dr. Parker. “I carefully evaluate the facial structure and listen, really listen to what my patient is saying. The end result is a nose which looks natural and is in better balance with the patient’s facial features.”

After the nose job, New Jersey patients wear a splint for a week to remind those around the patient to stay away from the nose to protect it from injury as it heals. Because of Dr. Parker’s a traumatic surgical technique, combined with his Rapid Recovery Program of pre and post-operative supplements and medications, bruising and swelling is limited. When the splint comes off after a week, there may be some swelling and very little bruising, but as one of his patients noted, “I could tell, but no one else knew that I had surgery.” It is Dr. Parker’s goal to get his patients back in circulation within 10 days of surgery.

Patients are almost always satisfied about the appearance of their noses following nose job, New Jersey. In addition to being pleased with the physical changes in their nose and improved facial balance, patients are now more self confident.

He helps his New Jersey breast lift patients reclaim youth with a limited incision breast lift. He recommends a unique surgery for 4 different types of breast lift patients.

During an initial consultation with a patient seeking a breast lift in New Jersey, Dr. Parker will have the patient stand in front of a mirror and tell him exactly what she dislikes about her breasts. He then evaluates the amount of existing breast tissue, the degree of sagging as well as the location of the nipple to determine proper treatment.

“There are four basic categories in which I will evaluate the breasts to determine if a breast lift is necessary,” says Dr. Parker. “One will have insufficient volume but no sag. The second will have insufficient volume as well sagging. The third will have sufficient volume but the breasts sag. The fourth will have breasts larger than the patient would like and they have sagged. All of these will be treated differently.”

4 Unique Surgical Answers to Dr. Parker’s Breast Lift Patients:

1) For the patient with insufficient volume and no sagging, breast augmentation alone will restore the missing volume.

2) For the patient with insufficient volume and sagging, insertion of a breast implant to restore volume and a limited incision breast lift, or mastopexy, will re-shape the breast.

3) For the patient with sufficient volume and sagging, a breast lift alone will give the breast a more youthful shape.

4) For the patient with too much volume and sagging, a limited incision breast reduction will adjust the volume appropriately and also provide a lift to the breast.

New Jersey breast lift patients who come to The Parker Center usually range in age from mid 20’s to mid 50’s. Their breasts have sagged after pregnancy, weight loss or sometimes from congenital sagging of the breasts. Sagging breasts make a patient look and feel older than she is.

“Not too long ago, I operated on a woman in her late 60’s who is very active and in great shape. She didn’t like the droopiness of her breasts, so I gave her a limited incision lift and added implants,” says Dr. Parker. “She recovered rapidly, as if she were in her 30’s, and is a great example of someone whose chronological age conflicts with her physiological and mental age. She loves the way she looks and feels—much younger than her stated age.”

Dr. Parker and his staff spend a great deal of time with each patient evaluating, educating and getting to know the individual. “Options for the type of breast lift procedure are discussed in detail. If implants are to be used to restore volume, a Sizing and Shaping Session is performed to help the patient determine with which type and size implant she will be most comfortable. Dr. Parker’s Nurse Educator will meet with the patient again before surgery to review pre and postoperative instructions. The Parker Center’s highly acclaimed website, parkercenter.net, serves as a 24/7 educational tool for the practice’s patients as well. At the Parker Center, patient education is at the forefront of an extremely high degree of patient satisfaction.

Due to the Parker Center’s Rapid Recovery Program, patients following New Jersey breast lift surgery, recover quickly and painlessly from the procedure, returning to the normal activities of daily living within several days.

In carefully observing his patients recovery from these surgeries, New Jersey plastic surgeon Dr. Parker has been gratified by not only the physical transformation of his patients now with more youthful, uplifted breasts, but also their positive emotional feelings of improved self esteem and body image.

At The Parker Center, patients seeking New Jersey breast augmentation typically are a young woman who never had volume in her breasts or the post-partum mom who has lost volume and has some sagging. Very small breasts or sagging breasts inhibit a woman from wearing the kind of clothes she wants and causes her to avoid certain social situations like

wearing a bathing suit. When they come to Dr. Parker about implants, they undergo an extensive evaluation, a sizing session and very thorough pre-operative education about breast implant surgery.

The image in the mirror is often the culprit of low self-esteem and lack of confidence in a woman. Often women who are unhappy with their appearance don’t know where to start. If they find they want to seek surgical treatment it is important to follow a certain set of steps to help guarantee the upmost satisfaction with their new look. The Parker Center in New Jersey follows a plan that may help many see the important steps in beginning your journey for a new look.

A consultation for breast augmentation in New Jersey with Dr. Parker begins with him spending a few minutes getting to know the patient. He will then listen carefully after asking the patient to tell him specifically what bothers her. Dr. Parker performs a physical examination to correlate the patient’s concerns with her physical findings. Options for treatment will then be reviewed, including a detailed discussion of saline versus silicone implants in order to find what’s best for each patient.

Determining desired breast size which looks natural is a very important consideration in women pursuing breast augmentation. New Jersey patients have at least three opportunities to clarify this at the Parker Center. Immediately after meeting with Dr. Parker, they will undergo a breast implant sizing session with one an experienced staff member to determine how they would like to look. The Parker Center staff refers to this as “taking a test drive”. The patient will use different size implants in a bra under a tank top. She will look at herself in a mirror and pictures of the various sizes will also be taken. These are posted on the Parker Center website to be accessed only with a special password. This allows the patient to go on-line and peruse the photos at her leisure. In addition, it enables the patient to get opinions from her sister in California and her best friend in New York. Finally, within two weeks of the scheduled surgical procedure, the patient undergoes a pre-op education visit with Dr. Parker’s Nurse Educator. The sizing session is repeated once more during this visit.

Breast augmentation surgeries are performed in the Parker Center’s onsite fully certified ambulatory surgical facility under general anesthesia. The procedures usually require roughly one hour to complete. Patients are discharged shortly thereafter. Thanks to the Rapid Recovery Program developed at the Parker Center, patients almost always recover quickly and painlessly from surgery.

Following a breast lift, New Jersey plastic surgeon, Dr. Parker has observed the following:

Over 90 % of patients have an improved body image and self esteem.

Almost all of his patients would undergo the procedure again and recommend it to their friends.

When seen at their one year anniversary following surgery, patients report the procedure exceeded their expectations.

Patients report they feel more comfortable with their bodies, a greater sense of femininity and their relationships are enhanced.

Patients feel more self confident and demonstrate improved interpersonal skills.

Many patients feel a psychological lift from now being able to wear stylish clothing and bathing attire that they previously could not.

When patients return for their postop visits to see Dr. Parker he often hears that they are back looking in the mirror again. Now, however, they smile when they look at what they see and also what they are feeling. It’s gratifying for Dr. Parker and the staff at the Parker Center to witness these transformations and make such a positive difference in their patient’s lives.

Ask Stephanie about her new breast implants and the first thing she says is, “I can’t believe I didn’t do this sooner. I love my implants!” At 37, Stephanie is an active athletic woman who was so small, she said she wasn’t even an A cup. Safety, money and concern that it would hinder her activities prevented her from doing it until now.

When Stephanie started actively searching for the right New Jersey plastic surgeon, she had consultations with two in the area. Not satisfied with these surgeons, she took the advice of friends who had had procedures with Dr. Paul M. Parker at The Parker Center. “Well,” as Stephanie put it, “I really did save the best for last. Immediately when I met him, I knew,” she says.

A natural look was very important to Stephanie which is why, even two days prior to the procedure, she was still trying to decide between 275 and 300 CCs. The sizing sessions and talking with the nurses was very helpful because they had seen it so often, they knew. “I wanted a bust-line and completely fill a bra. I didn’t want to look freakish. They listened to me and were very patient,” says Stephanie. “I trusted their experience and was able to decide on 275 CCs.”

Stephanie’s less than A cup breasts allowed her to wear form-fitting clothes, but she was self-conscious in low cut or bust enhancing clothes. “I didn’t have anything there. I didn’t feel feminine or sexy.” Dr. Parker let her touch and hold saline and silicone implants during their consultation. With her fears of silicone safety debunked, she chose the silicone because they had the most natural feel about them.

The best part about her new body is that she can still be as active as she was before without any problems. Somewhere between a B and a C cup, Stephanie says, “I run, bike, yoga- everything is fine. Sometimes I forget I have them because they are so comfortable.”

Stephanie loved that the consultation, sizing, surgery and follow-ups are all conducted in the same facility. The after-surgery lymphatic drainage massage at the Beaura Spa is also located at The Parker Center. The people there made a huge impression on her too. “The people that work for Dr. Parker are a reflection of him and the way he conducts his practice. Everybody was so helpful and professional- I just can’t say enough about him and what a positive experience this has been.”

Stephanie is so pleased with her New Jersey breast augmentation and the silicone implants, she wants to tell everybody. “I’m more than happy to talk to anybody who is thinking about getting breast implants. I am so happy with my results that I want to share my experience with others.”

At 25, Angela is a well-adjusted and confident woman. Ask her what she would change about herself and she would quickly say, “My nose and eyes.” Family genes often run deep in families and Angela’s is no different. “My dad has the same nose,” she says. “On a girl though, it was out of place with the rest of my features.”

Though her eyes are less about genetics, as she got older, the puffy bags became more prominent and actually began to bother her more than the nose she’d had all of her life. At only 25, “I looked tired all the time and a lot older than my 25 years,” says Angela. “I tried creams. I tried lotions. I even had massages and nothing worked. I knew surgery was my only option.”

When asked why she decided to have the New Jersey eyelid surgery and rhinoplasty, Angela simply replied, “I knew for years that I wanted to do this. And, if there’s something that bothers you and you can fix it….why shouldn’t you?”

As confident as she was about having cosmetic surgery, it was a surprise to learn that it would also be her first experience with anesthesia and surgery. She was so confident because she had done her homework. After two consultations with other plastic surgeons, she was 99% certain that Dr. Parker was going to perform her New Jersey rhinoplasty and lower eyelid surgery. She did take her grandmother with her to her consultation though. “She was more nervous than I was and I wanted her to meet Dr. Parker so she would be comfortable with my choice of surgeons.”

Angela actually got to see Dr. Parker’s handiwork up close because a colleague of hers was a former rhinoplasty patient of Dr. Parker. “I had admired her results and from talking to her, knew that Dr. Parker was going to be the one for me.” Her consultation with him did not disappoint. “He was very honest with me and we both had realistic expectations about the results.”

While many patients experience self-esteem and confidence issues prior to New Jersey plastic surgery, Angela felt none of these often debilitating feelings. “I just knew all along that I was going to fix it one day, so it never really affected me,” she said. While no big change to her personality, she does say, “I love going out and not worrying about putting on under-eye make-up!”

When asked about her New Jersey rhinoplasty and eyelid procedure specifically, Angela quickly responded, “It was almost too easy.” This is because of not only the pre-operative education, but also Dr. Parker’s pre-op vitamin regimen and post-op steps to his Rapid Recovery Program. Angela was amazed at how little bruising she had and how quickly it dissipated and thoroughly attributes this to those supplements prescribed for Rapid Recovery.

When it comes to her results, Angela couldn’t be happier. “The changes were so natural and so subtle. I could see the difference, but other people were confused about what was different about me.”

Whether it is for New Jersey eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty or both, Angela highly recommends Dr. Parker and his staff at the Parker Center. “From the consultation to the follow-ups, I can’t recommend him highly enough!”

You can find more information on these procedures and more at www.parkercenter.net. To schedule your own consultation for lower eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty or any other cosmetic procedure, contact The Parker Center at (201) 967-1212.

In 2007, New Jersey plastic surgeon, Dr. Paul M. Parker introduced a new tummy tuck technique called lipoabdominoplasty to his patients. At a conference in Florida several weeks earlier, one plastic surgeon from Brazil and one from France demonstrated their variations of this innovative technique. Dr. Parker combined what he liked from each technique to create his version of lipoabdominoplasty New Jersey and ran with the idea.

“It answered things that we weren’t doing with traditional tummy tucks,” he says. He then points out what makes this procedure better than the traditional New Jersey tummy tuck and his own enhancements to the original technique.

Just prior to the tuck, extensive liposuction is performed to create a flatter smoother abdominal area. This is an important distinction from the traditional tummy tuck where very little liposuction is done. The aggressive liposuction performed by Dr. Parker makes the abdomen look better. In addition, the lymphatics are left intact in the fatty tissue at either end of the incision which runs just above the pubic bone. The lymph system is responsible for moving fluid away from the site. By maintaining the integrity of these lymphatics, Dr. Parker says it “helps promote post-op drainage so the patient swells less and heals quicker.”

One of the improvements Dr. Parker made to the original lipoabdominoplasty technique was to utilize the

VASER ultrasonic liposuction method. The emulsification of fat provided by the VASER system means fat can be atraumatically suctioned around the lymphatics. Not only does this keep the lymphatics intact and avoids damage to blood vessels, but it produces less swelling and bruising with a quicker recovery.

Another difference between the traditional and Dr. Parker’s technique is the use of powerful barbed Quill sutures to tighten the lax rectus abdominus muscles. These sutures are hidden beneath the skin and run from the breast bone to the pubic bone creating a youthful appearance and strong structural support for the rejuvenated abdomen. After removing excess skin between the pubic bone and umbilicus, Dr. Parker again uses the Quill suture to close the lower abdominal transverse incision with little tension. This allows the incision to be kept as short as possible and most often heal as an inconspicuous scar.

“Because of the liposuction and preservation of the lymphatics, we have a heartier skin flap which virtually eliminates any wound-healing problems and brings about a quicker recovery,” he says. “Likewise, because we alleviate the tension with these Quill sutures, it also reduces healing problems during recovery.”

All around, this procedure is by far a better version of the traditional tummy tuck. When lipoabdominoplasty New Jersey is performed in Dr. Parker’s state-of-the-art fully accredited Surgiplex, the enhanced technique combined with his stringent safety precautions ensures a natural appearing, rejuvenated torso and rapid recovery from surgery.

A 60 year-old can look 40 and a 40 year-old can look 60. The reason for this is that genetics, environment and an individual’s skin care regimen dictate how quickly the face shows age. This is why Paramus plastic surgeon, Dr. Paul M. Parker says there is no real age requirement for a facelift procedure.

“Whatever the age, when a patient comes to me wanting a facelift, I start every consultation by handing her a mirror,” he says. “Then I say ‘Show me what’s bothering you.’” He goes on to say that if the patient points out sagging jowls and lax skin of the face and neck, a facelift will help the situation. If the patient expresses concern about fine wrinkling of the skin, he recommends non-surgical treatments at The Beaura Spa, the onsite medical spa where Dr. Parker serves as Medical Director.

It is important to understand that the purpose of a facelift procedure is to reposition underlying fatty tissue that sags with aging along with sagging skin in the jowls, cheek and neck area. Dr. Parker’s biplaner Paramus facelift procedure ensures natural looking results, as opposed to other techniques that simply pull the skin tight. He uses carefully designed incisions which curve in front and behind the ear. Through these incisions, he lifts up the skin in the face and neck. The fallen fat is lifted into a more youthful position with sutures. The facial skin is then re-draped over the fat, excess skin removed and incisions closed with sutures, so as to make them inconspicuous.

As women age, their skin loses key biochemical components such as collagen and elastin which allow gravity to cause a sagging of their facial and neck skin. This process is not confined to just the skin, however. The fibers holding the fat beneath the skin in place loosen with aging, causing a descent of facial and neck fat which contributes to this aged appearance. Women of all ages experience these physiologic changes due to genetics, environment and lifestyle. “I have seen an increase in younger patients who are good candidates for a facelift. The youngest patients I have treated have been in their mid-thirties.”

Dr. Parker admits that patients in their 30s and 40s have a bit of advantage over their more senior counterparts when it comes to getting a Paramus facelift. “For one thing, younger patients tend to have better skin tone and elasticity which leads to a faster bounce back of the skin,” he says. “I can also use shorter incisions than say, with a 70 year-old patient with poor skin tone.”

For a facelift or other cosmetic surgery, New Jersey residents can come in to the Parker Center for customized care with natural-looking results. Contained within the Parker Center is a fully accredited, state-of-the-art ambulatory surgical facility with a fully trained and certified staff of nurses and anesthesiologists.

The signs of aging do not discriminate and are not ruled by a number. Women in their 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond can all benefit from theParamus facelift procedure at the Parker Center.

While our Bergen County plastic surgery practice believes in the use of vitamins and supplements to promote healing after surgery (namely Bromelain and Arnica), a new report issued by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) suggests that not all vitamins and supplements are safe to take before surgical procedures.

Specifically, the vitamins and supplements considered “potentially unsafe” by the ASAPS include ginkgo biloba, ginseng, garlic, St. Johns Wart, echinacea and valerian root.

The study also found that 70% of cosmetic surgery patients fail to inform their doctor of any vitamins or supplements they may be taking in their initial paper work or prior to the actual surgery.

And while most of our Bergen County plastic surgery patients are fairly open with alternative or homeopathic remedies they may be using (especially because we believe in—and recognize the benefits of vitamins and supplements), we still want to encourage potential patients to list ALL of the supplements they may be taking prior to surgery.

This is important (as the article goes on to explain) because certain herbs cannot be mixed with pain medications or anesthesia. And in some cases, the supplements named above can increase the risk of bleeding during surgery.

Yet the article does go on to say that “on the positive side…providing the correct supplements and nutrients after aesthetic surgery can be very therapeutic.”

Here at the Parker Center, our Bergen County plastic surgery patients experience “rapid recovery” following surgery thanks in part to the holistic techniques (such as the use of bromelain, arnica and lymphatic drainage massages) that help reduce some of the pain, swelling and bruising that patients traditionally experience after cosmetic procedures.

But again, we want to be clear that not all supplements are safe and therapeutic leading up to surgery.

So if you are taking any of the supplements listed above, please be sure to inform Dr. Parker or a member of the team to ensure you receive the best care and guidance possible.

Wendy’s smile could be heard in her voice as she spoke about her recent experience with lipoabdominoplasty at the Parker Center. After hearing her story, it became obvious why she was so happy.

Wendy is a petite woman and all of her children were quite large when they were born. Needless to say, that took a toll on her body. She had her last child 7 year ago and knew she wanted to do something but the timing was all wrong. She was finishing up her degree, getting ready to start a new job plus the everyday obligations of family; she kept putting herself on the back-burner.

“I was making all of these accomplishments- school, work and family- but my body and mind weren’t in sync.” She knew what she had to do to achieve happiness with her body but the expense was all too great. Instead, Wendy threw herself into researching New Jersey tummy tuck. Seven years later, she came across Dr. Parker’s Web site, looked at the lipoabdominoplasty photos and knew that the Parker Center was the place for her.

Wendy and her husband decided to go in for a consultation. The cost factor had been one of the issues that had been stopping Wendy for the past 7 years and she was still doing it. Her husband said, “You have to do this. You are never going to feel good about you if you don’t.”

Wendy’s description of the procedure is quite poetic. She likened those first few days as if she were a caterpillar going through metamorphosis. “I could feel it, sense it. A change was taking place and it was extraordinary,” she said.

After waking from the surgery, she looked down and felt tightness in her abdomen and knew at that moment that her life was changed. She is now 6 weeks post-op and already back to all of her normal activities. Every day, Wendy sees it getting better and better. Her tummy is flat again and the lipoabdominoplasty technique also gave her some womanly curves that she just loves.

For Wendy, finally deciding to have the procedure was a long time coming. She was so glad that she chose the Parker Center. “Everyone there made you feel like you were the only patient there,” she said. “Dr. Parker is an amazing gentleman. He really is interested in you and helping you.”

After her procedure, Wendy found the mind/body connection that she had been missing as she was hiding behind baggy clothes and sagging skin. “You feel good about you. Your self-confidence exudes and it affects everyone around you.” And her confidence is through the roof- she’s even gone out and bought a bikini just for her.

For anyone on the fence about having this procedure, Wendy emphatically says, “Do it. Do it now. Run- don’t wait.”
