Statistics released last month by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reveals that chin augmentation is the fastest growingplastic surgery procedure performed in the U.S.  There was an increase across every age demographic.  Over 20,680 chin augmentations were performed in the U.S. in 2011, which represents a 71% increase over 2010.  This is the largest increase of all plastic surgery procedures.

There are several factors that are credited with this increase, including the increased use of video chat technology such as Skype, video conferencing with webcams and FaceTime on iPhones.  Another factor is the increased popularity of Facebook.  If you attend an event, any photo of you can be tagged and posted for all to see, without your approval.

Keith is a 41-year-old man who has dealt with the issue of “man boobs” for most of his life. Unhappy with his appearance, he finally decided to do something about it. Gynecomastia or “man boobs” is a common condition that reportedly affects 50% of adult males. Medically it means enlargement of the male breast. It can result from excess breast tissue and/or fat. It can affect one or both breasts and men both young and old.

Men are having plastic surgery in record numbers. According to ASPS (American Society of Plastic Surgeons), in 2010 male cosmetic surgery increased 2% and men now account for 13% of all cosmetic surgical procedures.

There has always been more of a stigma about men undergoing cosmetic surgery. It was always thought to be just for actors or celebrities. Because of that many men opted for less invasive procedures in order to conceal their actions. Increasingly though, men have been coming clean about having surgery rather than lying or hiding their surgery.

According to a recent study conducted at the Oregon Health & Science University’s Casey Eye Institute, which included 50 women ages 30 to 50 who received regular injections for two years, the results revealed that a patient could reduce the appearance of wrinkles with fewer treatments, after 20 months. In doing so, the injections would provide longer lasting results thereby reducing the need for more frequent treatments. Although patients would still have to commit to three to four treatments per year for two years, thereafter the patient would be able to significantly decrease the frequency of treatments to as little as twice a year, while still being able to achieve a decrease in the appearance of wrinkles. The results of which can be significantly impactful with respect to the financial commitment of BOTOX® treatments, regardless of whether you are an existing patient or you are considering treatments for the first time.

Eric is a 38 year old public safety professional who has been embarrassed about his “man boobs” since puberty. He is married with a young child and has wanted to have the male breast reduction in New Jersey for a very long time.

“I’ve been thinking about the surgery since I was like 13 or 14. I’ve been ready for a long time. I never thought it would be this easy or I would have done it sooner,” explained Eric.

Since she was a teenager, Shelby always wanted to have bigger breasts.  As an avid exerciser, she is very fit and always felt something was missing with her figure.  Never having had surgery, Shelby had only recently decided that a breast augmentation was something she should consider.

“I thought that only celebrities had breast augmentation, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve met more and more everyday people, my age that have had it done.  And they look great!  It’s not like you look at them and the first thing you think is boob job.  They look really natural.  That’s what I wanted,” explained Shelby.

Abby is a 40-something professional woman with a family who never left her house without lipstick.  She had thought about doing something to augment her lips like injections but never really liked the way it looked.

“My upper lip was so thin, without lipstick, it was invisible.  But I never liked the puffed-up look that injections give people.  It almost looks too plump, like you have a fat lip,” explained Abby.

“Who wants to be 28 years old and have breasts like an 8 year old?” asked Nicole when discussing her New Jersey breast augmentation.

This good question led Nicole, a mother of three, to Parker Surgery Center and New Jersey plastic surgeon, Dr. Paul Parker.  Breast augmentation surgery was something she had been thinking about for a long time.  After the birth of each of her children, Nicole found her breasts getting smaller and smaller.  Prior to childbirth, she had been a “B” cup but after three pregnancies, she couldn’t even fill an “A” cup.

At 55, Susan had had enough of the tummy fat and “flat tire” around her mid-section. She decided it was time to reclaim her body from the fluctuating hormones and side effects of menopause. “Wait until you’ve had kids before you get your implants.” This is what New Jersey plastic surgery patient, Christy, heard from friends and family when she would bring up the subject. But at 28, while on a beach vacation this winter, Christy decided to go ahead and do it.

“Watching other women walking by filling out their bathing suits, I was like, ‘I want that!’ So, I made the decision then to go ahead with it when I got home. I knew that it was now or never. I had the money and I felt that other life altering issues, like kids, would force me to put it off even longer,” she says. “I want to enjoy them now, not years from now.”
