Breast Reduction New Jersey - Procedure and Recovery
Parker Center in Paramus, New Jersey
Patients with overly large breasts commonly complain of self consciousness and difficulty with clothing in addition to being the source of considerable discomfort. This excessive breast weight can cause neck and back pain, shoulder strap grooving, and chronic skin irritation under the breast. Sagging of the breast will commonly occur as well. Breast reduction surgery often combined with a breast lift provides more youthful, uplifted breasts that are in better proportion to the patient's body. Almost all patients state their physical discomfort is eliminated. Additionally, they report an improved fit in clothing, the ability to exercise more comfortably, and enhanced self esteem.
"I want to personally thank you for the wonderful job you did on my Breast Reduction. You have restored a part of me that I lost a very long time ago." —Breast Reduction Patient
Breast Reduction Options
There are three methods of performing breast reduction. Liposuction reduction can be performed to reduce the size of the breast in patients who do not need to have their breast lifted appreciably. Women who require a modest reduction and lift are candidates for the LeJour, "lollipop," or vertical breast reduction. This technique employs a limited incision only around the areola and vertically down to the crease under the breast. There is no incision in the crease itself. The "traditional" breast reduction technique uses an inverted T or anchor type incision. This includes an incision around the areola, one extending vertically down to the crease, and an incision within the crease. This method is used for large breast reductions and for those patients with nipples pointing downward.
"You made major surgery a very comfortable and positive experience for me. Angela told me on my first visit that breast reduction patients were among the most satisfied patients. Well, count me in! I feel so much better. I no longer have back pain. And on a more superficial note, I look great and can wear almost anything now. Thank your again for everything." —Breast Reduction Patient
Recovery from Breast Reduction
All incisions are closed with dissolving sutures. Surgery times range from 1½ hours for lipo-reduction to 4½ hours for a large, traditional reduction. General anesthesia is used and the patient discharged after one hour of observation. Pain is usually not significant after the surgery utilizing our "pain management" protocol. Most activities except lifting or carrying can be resumed within five days. Patients can often return to work after one week. Aerobic exercise which does not involve the upper body can be resumed at two weeks. All other activities including heavy lifting at four to six weeks.
